How Many Miles Do I Need for a Year?

Everybody is different, and everyone has different circumstances that means they drive more or less in any given year. With a leasing contract provided by AVL, we speak to you in advance of your contract starting to iron out details such as how many miles you’re expecting to cover.

These are one of the many details that are, as standard, discussed at the start of your contract. We work with you to find out details which will give you a good idea of how many miles you are likely to cover in a year and then base a bespoke contract around your requirements.

To help decide this, we take into account what you use a vehicle for and when. If you are hoping to use the car for work for example, we look at how far away your workplace is, how often you travel socially, and a multitude of other considerations to come up with a decision.

Ultimately however, it’s down to you how many miles you want to choose. Fortunately, we have car leases available that cater to pretty much any and all individual circumstances for drivers.

What’s the UK Mileage Average?

This is ever changing, and back in 2017 the average annual mileage for a UK driver was around 9,200 miles.

However, surprisingly to some, this figure has decreased and in 2019, the figure was closer to 7,300 miles per year, which is even lower currently.

This is perhaps down to changing attitudes towards driving, with more people being economical with their mileage and having black boxes installed for insurance purposes.

A lot of people also work from home more often in recent years, so this might also be a contributing factor, with more people driving for pleasure rather than commuting.

This of course differs from person to person, and a lot of people in the UK still rely on their cars or vehicles to commute to work for various reasons. Everyone is different, so there isn’t a one-size fits all approach when it comes to mileage. That’s why we offer a bespoke service to match your contract around your requirements.
